Snitch vs. First Non-Ball Amigurumi.

I have two kinds of yarn with me today. One is a cotton, lime and white in color. The other is an acrylic, baby blue. The blue was purchased for a baby blanket I intend to make for my aunt Angel's new baby (due any day!), but I really hate the feeling of acrylic, so I've chosen some others to test out, including standard soft cotton. It's almost summer anyway, so I figure it's best to make a lighter blanket for now and work up a warmer one for the winter later.

Anyway, I was going to make one of the Crobots, but it required some extras like nails and felt that I don't have with me, so I'm choosing a pattern to work up. I love Ravelry, because it just has so many cool patterns to look through! I have about 50 saved in my favorites because they all look so great.

At any rate, I settled on Birds of a Feather, an adorable little bird. Seriously, look how cute it is. The yarn I'm using is the baby blue, which is a Red Heart "Baby Steps." Seriously, I am NOT fond of this yarn, but it was cheap, so I figure it's worth a try. I also read somewhere that the best yarn for amigurumis is acrylic and worsted weight, so hey! That's my starting point for actual toys. I made a few little balls to test out crocheting in the round, and my cats think they're awesome, so I figured it's a good time to try something with an actual shape, heh.

I also attempted to work out a sample of a double crochet in the yarn I was going to use for my upcoming cousin's blanket, but since the yarn was all crappy, I refuse to show it to anyone. (Yes, that's the yarn I'm using for this ami.)

We'll see how it turns out.
